EYING AT "DYING YOUNG"

Movie contains several important aspects to be set out. It includes art of performance. It is also one of the most optional entertainments for people at present time. More than just a performance or an entertainment, the filmmakers, movie creators, artists and the other focal figures involving in production always bring out some points of messages intended to spectators. Due to the purpose, the movie is disposed in several stages of manufacturing starting from research and script-writing processes up to the show or a well-structured and ready-watched film.

The appealing nuance of a movie lies on its plot. It composes and ties up the flow of the story entirely becoming a sequence of reciprocal, closely related and united scenes that perform an interesting narrative. The plot of a movie determines its meaning and tenet before spectators, and its successful film as well. Well-composed plot of a movie enables audience to comprehend intentional value(s) the filmmaker dares to communicate, without being biased by angle of twist.

“Dying Young” as a model movie comprises of those features above. Despite a merely sorrowful story just like the emerging trend of melodrama genre in today’s movie shows, Dying Young performs a more dynamic drama of life. Unlike more common narrative which distinguishes exposition of plot and setting in order to make it clear for audience, the storyline combines both main elements of each character along in a line. The exposition is devoid of confuting audience for its understandable and easy-analyzing embedded plot.

Starting with fairly fluctuate exposition, its tension raises along with the encounter between Hilary, a candy-striper, starred by Julia Roberts, who is looking for a job, and Victor Geddes (Campbell Scott), a wealthy young man who is suffering from blood cancer, as the employer. The difference of class becomes “clash of civilization” in term of lifestyle and way of thinking. Hillary with her quite free life and pure expression whereas Geddes junior as a well-educated and ordered noblesse-outlook, all them are mixed up in the encounter and close relation between the two children of the world that represent natural desire of human being to unify colorful perspective and diminish all kind of disparity. The Boss and the nurse are drunk of love to each other. Afterward, the affection almost immediately brings them on through all handicaps in the beginning, blinded by passion as usual beyond all shortcomings no matter how the differences could emerge any time.

The bittersweet relationship of the two protagonists inflicted with divergence and human’s state of limit culminate in the problem of trust. Thinking she was deceived by Victor about his improvement from the illness, desperate Hilary who hits upon heartbreaking fact that the beloved actually still suffers from wretched condition affected by 10 years fight against leukemia. She chooses to let him alone.

The ultimate climax finds its way to turn down when both of them are able to accept the limitations of each other. Hilary discloses her true love by letting Victor’s family knows his half-death condition. The ill-fated Victor with his suffering of Leukemia admits the presence and love of Hilary wholeheartedly. On the other hand, Hilary with her compassionate heart and mind gets rid of her reluctance to show her care and love to Victor attentively and affectionately.

That’s the point, no matter whatever could happen in the future, the plot has come to its conclusion. Whether Victor could survive or carry on fighting his unending illness, will Hillary endure in on-going problem of taking care a half-dead man or be trapped in restricted manner of aristocrat circle and so forth. The closing stages bring up a short underlined inspiration that “where there is love there is life”, as spoken by Mahatma Gandhi.

The movie explicates an honorable moral value and tenet that is compassionate love makes lose every boundaries. It revives the hopeless people and unlocks the closed mind. Last but not the least, Dying Young delivers more than just a drama of life but also a new perspective of thinking. It highlights a point to be thought over that tragic fortune should not come to its end by desperate feeling. It could be changed to peaceful dream by empathetic love of others who keep on caring and elucidating their love.

Another Inadequate Apology on gas explosion by Chairman of Parliament

Chairman of Parliament Marzuki Alie stated a very disappointing reply in Metro TV’s Economic Challenges last Monday (30/8) on account of the blast of a number of 3 kg LPG’s canisters. According to him we should be open-minded to consider the accident from broader perspective. Gas conversion program, Alie argued, takes in more economic profit to Indonesia. It could not be blamed just because of several death tolls. How poor, insensible argument of a chairman of our representatives council.

What was in your mind, Mr Chief? Was it simply humorous answer or coffee booth discuss so you easily made that inadequate comparison. Another fairly reason was probably sufficient than to compare between any economic profit and death toll. As a human being and endorser of Human Rights Declaration we might not put economic profit prior to human life at any cost.

In addition, public and media do not criticize over the conversion program itself. We urge government immediate reaction and sense of crisis on the problem since we are terrorizing everyday by fear about the blasts. Have you think about the dreadful experience of millions people of ‘the subsidized class’. We have to utilize such stove and canister several times a day and be used to such a shocking feeling each moment we start to turn it on.

It is quite prudent retort not to blame gas incidents merely as government responsibility. Government however possesses capability and facilities to run some quick responses since the case take accounts of human life. It requires more than just an apology and promise. When millions lives are under threatened a fast reaction to empower all resources thoroughly in order to tackle the threat should be placed as top priority of task.

Besides, are there any officials take the responsibility of the policy impacting in hundreds victims? Of course none, for it is not our ‘tradition’. Moral responsibility in civic accounts is a culture of those of ‘civilized governments’ meanwhile ours are still in term of in the process of being ‘civilized’.
]
Despite imposing government action both to arrange special task force and supervise those offices involving directly in gas conversion program, Mr Alie takes position to defend and excuse government as if government spokesperson who sound better on behalf of govt interest than of public aspirations.

My last gripe is, have you done any distinguished services for this country for the sake of public, Mr Ali? Public service apparently becomes your take for granted job. But, is there even a point of significant effect to people welfare without involving in party’s and personal benefit dialectic.
